Moore commits to St Helens

Tuesday 20th October 09

England hooker Scott Moore has signed a contract extension with St Helens that will keep him at the club until the end of 2012.

The 21-year-old is returning to Knowsley Road next season after two years out on loan, initially with Castleford Tigers and more recently with Huddersfield Giants, with whom he won his first England cap earlier this year.

“I’m more than happy to be back at St Helens and to commit at least the next three years to them,” he said.

“I’m particularly looking forward to playing again with all my mates who came up through the academy with me and who the club are now giving first team experience to.

“We’ve got to get some silverware back in the cabinet next season and I can’t wait to give it my best shot.”

Moore, who made his Saints debut at the age of 16 in 2004 and made the last of his 19 appearances in August 2007, will be competing with club captain Keiron Cunningham and England team-mate James Roby for the hooker's role.

St Helens chairman Eamonn McManus said: “Scott has benefited greatly from his loan period away from the club which resulted in regular Super League experience and returns as one of the top hookers in the game and as an England international at the age of 21.

“Next year is Keiron Cunningham’s final year and it’s a great position for us to be in having James Roby and Scott Moore thereafter. Again it’s a testament to our academy system, through which all three international hookers have come.”
